Guy at the supply yard in Toledo laughed at my 3/8 trowel, then asked to borrow it an hour later
Two summers back I was loading up at a yard off Reynolds Road in Toledo and this older guy, Walt, watches me pull my 3/8 inch trowel out of the truck and just smirks. Says nobody uses those anymore, all the young guys run 1/2 inch for everything because it spreads faster. I shrugged and went to my job, a fireplace surround with tight joints on Roman brick. Hour later he shows up on the same site, different crew, and his trowel handle snaps clean off. He stood there looking at it, then looked at mine. I handed it over and he ran his whole course with it, didn't say a word the entire time. When he gave it back he just nodded and said "that one's got better balance." Never saw him again. So what trowel width do you actually run for thin Roman brick, because I still think 3/8 wins and I want to hear somebody argue the other side.
