Found a leather chair for 40 bucks at a garage sale... then the leg snapped off in my living room

I was so proud of myself for scoring this vintage leather chair in Des Moines for 40 dollars. Got it home, set it up, and the second I sat down the back left leg just sheared off like it was made of sawdust. Turned out the previous owner had glued a broken leg back on and painted over the crack. Ended up drilling out the old hardware, reinforcing it with a metal bracket from the hardware store, and now it's sturdier than ever. Anyone else dealt with a fixer upper that turned out way more broken than you thought?

Are you seriously acting like that leg snapping was some kind of major life crisis? I mean yeah it's annoying but you just said you fixed it for the cost of a bracket from the hardware store. That's not "way more broken than you thought," that's a standard garage sale gamble that you actually won in the end. People act like a chair breaking is the end of the world around here. You got a vintage leather chair for forty bucks and spent maybe five more on a bracket. That's still a steal, not a tragedy.

Totally agree with you on this. A five dollar fix on a forty dollar chair is a win, not something to complain about.
