The lady at the Goodwill in Portland told me my $6 scarf looked like real cashmere, and now I can't stop thinking about it
She was the fitting room lady, maybe 70 years old, and she grabbed the tag and said "honey, this is 100% cashmere, someone's grandma is rolling in her grave right now." I paid $6 for it at the Goodwill on 82nd in Portland. My friend says buying secondhand cashmere is gross and she'd rather pay $150 at the mall for something new that feels worse. I say a rich lady's old scarf beats a brand new plastic one every time. Where do you all stand on this, would you wear a stranger's old cashmere or does the idea weird you out too much?
Man, the fitting room lady at Goodwill is basically the final boss of thrift store opinions, so if she says cashmere then it's cashmere. But here's what I want to know: did you actually check the tag yourself, or are you just going off her word? Because half the fun of a find like that is going home and googling the brand and feeling like you robbed a bank. Also does it have that little pilling situation on the sleeves, or did some rich lady in the Pearl District barely wear it before she died?
