Heard a cashier at Aldi say something that changed my meal prep

This lady in line behind me was talking about how she stretches a $15 grocery haul into 10 meals. She mentioned using cabbage as a cheap filler for everything. I tried it last week with a $1.50 head of cabbage and added it to ground turkey tacos and stir fry. Ended up getting 8 servings out of a $4 pack of meat. Anyone else use cabbage like this or got another cheap veggie hack?

Nah, I gotta push back on this a bit lol. I tried the whole cabbage thing and honestly my meals just ended up watery and sad. That $4 pack of ground turkey you mentioned? With cabbage mixed in I felt like I was eating sadness on a plate. The texture gets all limp and it soaks up whatever flavor you're going for. I'd rather just spend the extra few bucks on more meat or beans and actually enjoy what I'm eating. Call me when someone figures out how to make cabbage not taste like wet paper towels in my stir fry lol.

Is it really that big a deal though? I mean, you're acting like cabbage ruined your whole week. I get it's not the most exciting thing in the world, but calling it "sadness on a plate" feels a little dramatic. There are worse things than a veggie that soaks up flavor, and if you let it cook down long enough with the right spices it blends in just fine. Maybe you didn't season it enough or let it get too soggy in the pan. I just don't see why a $2 head of cabbage needs to be held to the standard of a gourmet meal.
