Booked a hostel vs a private room in Lisbon last month, saved 40 bucks a night
I was between a 12-bed dorm in Alfama for 25 euros a night or a private room in an Airbnb for 65. I went with the hostel figuring I could handle the noise. Big mistake. Some guy snored like a chainsaw and kept turning the lights on at 3 AM. I got maybe 4 hours of sleep total across 3 nights. Next time I'll just pay more for quiet, it's not worth being a zombie on vacation.

Every time I cheap out on something, I end up paying for it with my sanity.

That 4 hours of sleep across 3 nights math doesn't really add up unless you only slept one hour each night. Bet you were running on fumes and caffeine the whole trip.
