Hit $500 in travel rewards from just my regular groceries

I signed up for a grocery store rewards card that ties into an airline program about 8 months ago. Last week I checked my balance and somehow I had racked up $500 in flight credits without even trying. All I did was buy my normal food at the same store I always go to on Main Street. Has anyone else had a rewards card sneak up on them like this?

$500 is cute. I got a free flight to Chicago buying nothing but milk and bread.

Read somewhere that airlines are cracking down on people booking trips just with points from cheap grocery purchases. Apparently they track spending patterns now and some folks got their accounts flagged. Heard a story about a guy who bought two gallons of milk and ended up with enough miles for a round trip to Denver because of some weird promotional overlap with a grocery chain and a credit card company. Not saying it's fake, just that the terms keep changing. Might be worth checking if those flights still work the same way they did a year ago. Getting something for almost nothing usually doesn't last long.
