Hostel vs hotel in Barcelona - I chose wrong

I booked a hostel for $35 a night near Las Ramblas. Thought I was being smart with my money. But I couldn't sleep with the noise and strangers coming in at 2am. Wound up paying $90 for a private room at a budget hotel two days in. Should have just started with the hotel. Anyone else regret the hostel route?

The whole "strangers coming in at 2am" part hit close to home. That happened to me in a hostel in Lisbon and I ended up sleeping in the common area on a couch. One thing people don't think about is the location factor too. That $35 hostel near Las Ramblas probably feels like a steal but those central spots are always the loudest. I've had way better luck with hostels that are a 15 minute walk from the main drag.

Louder hostels usually have thinner walls too lol.
