My flight to Bangkok cost half as much this year by booking on a Tuesday

I tracked the same route from LA to Bangkok for three months last year and again this year. Last year I paid $1,200 when I booked on a Friday. This year, I got it for $580 by checking prices every Tuesday morning. A travel blog said airlines often update sales on Monday nights, so Tuesday mornings have the new deals. Has anyone else found a specific day that works best for where they fly?

My local airport in Portland has a direct flight to Amsterdam that always drops below $400 on Thursday nights. I suspect it's tied to KLM's weekly cargo schedule refresh. The Tuesday rule didn't work for that specific route at all.

A podcast I listen to mentioned that Tuesday and Wednesday are generally the cheapest days to book, not just to fly. They said airlines tend to match competitor sales early in the week. I've had good luck checking on Wednesday afternoons for last minute weekend trips. What routes were you looking at when you noticed the Tuesday pattern?

That podcast advice sounds way too general to be useful. Seth's Portland example shows how much it depends on the specific airport and airline. You really need to watch your own route for a few weeks to see its own pattern.
