Shoutout to my boss for the telecommuting deal that saved my Portugal trip

Just spent a month in Portugal on a small budget. My boss said I could telecommute from there. I found cheap guesthouses on local websites. Cafes became my office during the day. This saved cash on rooms and meals. I explored on weekends with no vacation days. Such a smart way to travel without spending much.

Remote work really opens up a different style of travel if you plan it right. You get to live in a neighborhood routine instead of just hitting tourist spots, which often saves money. It's a totally different vibe than taking a standard vacation.

Totally agree with @grant_hernandez about the neighborhood vibe. Found that renting a place a few blocks away from the main sights can cut costs in half. You start to feel like a local grabbing coffee at the same spot every morning.

Used to think you HAD to stay right in the middle of everything to have a good trip. Reading this totally flipped my view. Staying a bit outside lets you see how people actually live, and you're not just stuck in the tourist bubble all day. That local coffee shop routine sounds way better than fighting crowds for an overpriced latte. Saves a ton of money too, which means you can stay longer. Makes the whole experience feel real, not just a checklist.
