Unpopular opinion: I think we rely too much on the software to do the thinking for us

Last week, I was checking a set of shop drawings from a junior drafter for a steel frame in a Denver warehouse. The 3D model looked perfect, but when I printed the plans to scale, I saw a major clash between a beam and a duct run that the clash detection just missed. It was right there on paper. Three years ago, before everything went fully digital, I would have caught that in the first review because we had to think about the space, not just trust the green checkmark. Now I make my team do a full paper check on every big job before it goes out. It adds maybe half a day, but it saves a ton of site headaches. Has anyone else had a close call like that where the software said it was fine but it really wasn't?

Finally cleared out the old paint can graveyard in the back corner

For years I just tossed every half-empty can back there, figuring I'd need the color someday. Last Saturday I sorted them all and found 14 cans, most from before we moved to Phoenix. I kept three that still had good paint and took the rest to the city's hazardous waste drop-off. Anyone else have a good way to keep track of what paint you actually have left?

It said something like 70% of callbacks for squeaks or cupping are because the subfloor prep was off, even if the install was perfect. I told him the form just asks for pass/fail. He showed me his own log where he writes the starting and ending PSI, and pointed out a slow 2 PSI drop over 5 minutes that my method missed. Now I record every number, not just the final result. Has anyone else had an inspector change their routine like that?
