My grocery bill went from $900 to $500 in three months, and it's not what you think
I was spending about $900 a month for my family of four, just grabbing whatever at the store. Then I started planning meals around the weekly flyer for my local Food Lion and only buying what's on sale. I also switched to mostly store-brand items for things like pasta and canned goods. The first month was hard, but by month three we hit $500 without feeling like we were missing out. How do you guys handle meal planning without it taking over your whole Sunday?

Huge pot of chili is a lifesaver. I do the same with a double batch of meat sauce. Brown extra ground beef with onions, dump in two big cans of crushed tomatoes and seasoning. Freeze half flat in a gallon bag. Thaws fast for pasta or sloppy joes.

What do you do for meals that freeze well? I make a huge pot of chili or soup on my day off and freeze half. That covers two dinners later when I'm too tired to cook.
