My truck needed new tires and I had to choose between the cheap set or the good ones.

The cheap ones were $600 installed, but the good ones with a 60,000 mile warranty were $950. I went with the good ones because I drive all over for work and a blowout would cost me more in the long run. It hurt the budget for a couple weeks, but now I don't have to worry about it for years. Has anyone else made a big upfront spend to avoid a bigger cost later?

Is a blowout really that likely though?

Look at the stats from the highway patrol... they see it all the time. A blowout at speed isn't just a flat, it's losing control. Watched a car swerve into a ditch over a failed budget tire. The risk is real and it's scary. Saving a few bucks isn't worth that kind of panic.

Saw my friend's cheap tire shred on the highway last year. His tow and repair bill was way more than the price difference for good tires.
