My aunt said to read the book before the movie club meets, but I think it's better after.

That's a cool experiment by @river_gonzalez66. Did you notice if the mood of the meetings changed based on the format? Like, was one way more about arguing over meanings and the other more about sharing personal stories? That social vibe gets overlooked sometimes.

I heard a city inspector say they're going to start citing for flush cuts on street trees

Ever see a flush cut kill a tree later?

Pro tip: don't cheap out on those 'universal' power supply testers

Yeah, that "no real load" thing is exactly the problem. A buddy of mine who fixes phones had the same issue. He used a cheap tester on a power supply, it lit up green, but when he hooked up the actual phone board, nothing. He ended up just using an old car light bulb as a dummy load to check for real voltage drop.

Why does nobody talk about the co-op game section at the Portland Retro Game Expo?

Remember when my buddy tried to get a new 4-player game going last month? He bought that new dungeon crawler everyone was talking about. We spent an hour just setting up accounts and downloading a day-one patch. Then the tutorial was so long we lost interest before we even got to play together. It just made us dig out the old Sega and play Streets of Rage 2 instead. What modern game has gotten that pick-up-and-play feeling right for you?

PSA: I had to choose between a classic demi-glace and a quick red wine reduction for a big party.

Been there, done that. Some dishes just aren't worth the trouble for a big group.
