Zero-based budgeting vs the 50/30/20 rule, which one actually stuck for you?
I ran the 50/30/20 rule for about 8 months in Columbus and kept blowing past my wants category every single week. Then I switched to zero-based budgeting where every dollar gets a job before the month starts, and I finally stopped the leak. The first one feels easier but it's too loose for people like me who need guardrails. The second takes an extra hour on the last Sunday, but I saved $340 in the first month alone just by assigning money to small stuff like car repairs and coffee. I know some folks swear by the percentage split because it's less work, so I'm curious what made one click for you over the other? Did anyone find a hybrid that works better than both?
