Showerthought: I spent $60 on a 'perfect' bullet journal kit and used none of it

I saw a fancy kit online with 12 special pens, 3 stencil rulers, and a pack of washi tape. I bought it last month thinking it would make my journal look amazing. After trying it for a week, I found the pens bled through my paper and the stencils were too big for my pages. Now the whole box is just sitting in my closet, a total waste. Has anyone else bought a kit that just didn't work for their actual journaling style?

Marketing for those kits is all about selling the fantasy of a perfect system. The reality is that the basic tools you already use are usually the right ones. It's a pretty common trap to fall into.

But is it really a trap though... sometimes a new kit is just fun to try.
