Shoutout to the guy who told me white bumper stickers fade way faster than yellow ones

I was in a sticker shop down in Austin last month and the owner just casually dropped that fact on me. He said white vinyl lets UV rays punch right through, so you lose color in like 6 months tops. Yellow or bright orange can hold up for 2 years or more because they reflect light better. I've been printing on white stock for everything since I started and now I'm rethinking my whole inventory. Has anyone else had a design get washed out way sooner than they expected?

It's funny how that works. There's a bunch of stuff we assume holds up the same over time, but the little technical details always make such a big difference. Kind of like how dark cars show every speck of dirt way faster than light colored ones do.

White cars are definitely easier to keep clean looking, I'll give you that. But I had a dark blue car once and just getting a good ceramic coating on it made a world of difference. Dirt still showed but it washed off way easier with just a hose spray, no scrubbing needed. The dust on the hood was still there but it didn't stick the same way. Just my experience, your mileage may vary.

And @park.adam makes a good point about the details mattering, but I think there's another side to this. The thing about ceramic coatings is they don't fix the underlying problem of dirt being visible in the first place (you know, like pollen or road grime on a dark car). A white car with a ceramic coat is almost like cheating - you get the easy cleaning plus the dirt just doesn't show as much to begin with.
