Quarterly planning docs are a trap, I stopped after the third cycle
I kept seeing everyone push these detailed 90-day plans with KPIs and milestones, but my team actually improved after I ditched ours and just used a simple checklist. Realized 60% of what we planned never matched what actually came up, found that stat in a McKinsey ops report I was reading last night. Anyone else found lighter processes work better than the full framework?
...and honestly I used to be the guy printing out the 90 day roadmap in color and taping it to the wall. Took me four cycles to see the thing was just a fancy wish list. Once I switched to a weekly checklist that we actually redid every Monday morning, the team stopped pretending and started getting real work done. The McKinsey thing makes sense too, planning is good but pretending you can see three months ahead is just guessing with extra steps. Now I keep the big goals in my head and let the day to day stuff breathe.
