The 4am spreadsheet vs. the whiteboard meeting, I picked wrong
Last quarter I had to choose between updating our inventory tracker in Excel or running the team sync in the conference room at 9am. I picked the spreadsheet since numbers were lagging, but then the CFO, Mark, asked for a live forecast during the meeting and I had nothing but sticky notes. Spent the next 3 hours rebuilding the pivot table while everyone else went to lunch. Anyone else ever bet on the quiet task and lost the room?
...and honestly my spreadsheet isn't even that much better now because I was so mad I kept typing the wrong cells. I feel like the whiteboard is a trap though, you look productive with all those colorful markers and then realize you just drew a flowchart of what lunch orders people wanted. Next time I'm just gonna bring the sticky notes AND my laptop, and let Mark figure out his own forecast while I hide behind the pivot table like a coward.
