Why does nobody talk about how one bad Tuesday can wreck a whole month of ops
Last Tuesday our main supplier in Reno shorted us 400 units and didn't bother to call, so we found out when the truck showed up half empty. I spent the next 6 hours rerouting orders and eating crow with three angry customers while my ops lead, Dana, rebuilt the whole week's schedule by hand. The wild part is our numbers for the month still came in fine, but that one day made everyone question if our backup plan even exists. What's your actual move when a supplier goes silent, do you have a second source lined up or do you just pray?

Six hours of rerouting over a shorted shipment is pretty normal, the real problem is that 400 units went missing and nobody heard a word until the truck pulled up. Dana's hand-built schedule worked, but that's a person holding things together, not a backup plan, and you already know which one scales.
