Wasted $160 on a fancy meat grinder attachment, shoulda known better
Picked up that stainless steel grinder attachment for my KitchenAid last spring, figured it'd handle everything fine. First time I tried grinding beef for breakfast sausage it clogged on a bit of sinew and the auger stripped out within 20 minutes of use. Called the company and they said it's not for home use with tough cuts, so now it sits in a drawer. Anyone else had better luck with a standalone grinder under $200, or am I just cursed with bad luck?
Honestly I used to roll my eyes at people who said the KitchenAid grinder was junk because mine worked okay for chicken and softer stuff. Then I tried a chuck roast with some gristle in it and the thing jammed up so bad the plastic gear inside cracked. That's when it clicked for me that these attachments are built for light duty only, not real grinding. A standalone grinder with a metal drive gear is a totally different animal and you can find decent ones for around $120 to $150 if you shop around. Tbh I wish someone had told me sooner instead of me learning the hard way like you did. Your money isn't wasted though, you just found out what that attachment can and can't do.
