A buddy's garage comment flipped my whole setup around

My friend Rob came over to borrow a drill last Saturday and just stared at the bird's nest behind my TV stand. He said, 'you know that's like a foot of dust holding those wires together, right?' For some reason that hit different, probably because I'd been tripping over that same mess for two years. I spent the next hour labeling every single cord with those little bread tag things and using velcro strips instead of twist ties. Has anyone else had that moment where something simple finally clicks, or am I the only one who needed a friend to point out the obvious?

Ugh, yeah. I had a similar thing with my closet rod collapsing at 2am because I kept shoving stuff on top of it for years. A friend just looked at the pile and said, "that shelf is bowed like a noodle." Sometimes you need someone else's eyes to see the obvious mess you've learned to live with. The bread tag labels are a good move, though. I ended up using a label maker and color tape for mine, mostly because I kept unplugging the wrong thing in the dark. Now I just need a friend to point out the next disaster I'm ignoring.
