My buddy pointed out my HDMI cable was looped around a power cord causing interference

He said the crossed wires were making my picture flicker on movie nights. I rerouted them with a 6 inch gap and the static is gone. Has anyone else had signal issues from mixing power and data cables?

1920s electrical code actually said crossing power and signal cables was fine. Your buddy might be full of it. Could be placebo effect more than anything real.

Honestly, "crossing power and signal cables was fine" is absolutely wild to me. @paulperry, are you telling me they just let high voltage and low voltage wires touch like it was no big deal back then? That sounds like a recipe for noise issues at best, and a literal fire hazard at worst. Ngl, I'm shocked anyone thought that was okay, especially in the 20s when they were still figuring out electricity. Tbh, your buddy might be onto something with the placebo angle, but I'd still never trust that kind of setup.
