A retired sparky from Detroit changed how I run drops through attics

Ran into this old electrician at a supply house last Tuesday, we got to talking about crawl space work. He said I was wasting time using those plastic J hooks in attics, told me to use the metal ones with the rubber coating. Said he's seen plastic ones snap after 5 years of temp swings. Never thought about it before, but he had a point. He had 30 years on me and his reasoning made sense. You guys ever have a random dude at the counter flip your whole setup? And do you use metal or plastic in hot attics?

Metal hooks with the rubber coating is the only way to go in an attic. Plastic gets brittle after a few summers of that heat, and you end up redoing entire runs. That old timer saved you a headache, trust me on that. I switched years ago after pulling out a handful of snapped plastic ones that were holding up a main feed. Never looked back, and my drop work stays put now. That counter talk is how you learn the real stuff, better than any YouTube video.
