Hot take: fusion splices beat mechanical connectors for residential fiber drops

I had to choose between a mechanical connector and a fusion splice on a tricky attic run in Denver last month. The fusion splice held steady at 0.02 dB loss while the mechanical was bouncing around 0.5 dB. Anyone else find fusion splices worth the extra setup time on tight bends?

Man, that 0.02 dB loss on a fusion splice in a tight attic is no joke. It reminds me of how I used to cheap out on extension cords for my workshop, thinking a few bucks saved was worth it, until one overheated and nearly started a fire. Same thing with buying bargain bin tools that snap on the first real job. Sometimes spending a bit more time and money upfront saves you a ton of headache later. It's like that with everything from car repairs to cooking a good meal - the shortcut never holds up as well as doing it right the first time.

You mentioned the extension cord nearly starting a fire and that hits home. My buddy did the same thing with a cheap power strip in his garage, melted the whole damn thing one night while we were watching the game.

That .02 loss is solid for those tight attic bends.
