A pensioner brought in a Nikon FM with sand in the film advance and taught me something at my bench in Tucson
He set it down at my bench on a Tuesday and said he bought it new in 1979 and dragged it through Canyonlands every spring since. I expected him to be mad about the grit, but he just asked me to show him how the advance works so he could clean it himself next time. We sat there for 40 minutes with a toothbrush and a blower while he took notes in a little spiral pad. Does anyone else have regulars who want to learn the repair instead of just paying for it?
Forty minutes of note taking with a toothbrush and a blower, that's wild. Most folks hand me a gritty camera and want it back yesterday, no questions. The spiral pad part gets me, he's out there building his own service manual one spring at a time. Guy's been dragging that FM through Canyonlands since 1979 and still wants to get his hands dirty, that's the kind of regular you keep coffee around for.
