Rant: Wasted $60 on those fancy corrugated cutting tools from a craft store
Bought a set of three specialty cardboard cutters for $60 last month thinking they'd save me time on my fort build, but a plain old box cutter and a yardstick worked way better and now those tools are just collecting dust in my garage - has anyone else had this happen with overpriced cardboard gear?

Man, that stinks. Did you at least try them out on some thick cardboard before giving up on them? I know the feeling of dropping good money on a tool that ends up being a total dud. It's like the hype around these specialty cutters is way bigger than what they can actually do. A plain box cutter and a yardstick is seriously the way to go for most stuff, it's just simple and works. Sorry you got burned on that purchase, it's a bummer when you think you're getting something that'll make your life easier and it just doesn't deliver.

Oh man, yeah, I remember doing that with a utility knife that was supposed to be "self-sharpening" or whatever. Took it back to the store after one afternoon of cutting up moving boxes, it just got dull and wouldn't cut straight. A decent box cutter and a straightedge rule, that combo has never let me down for most things.

@paulperry yeah actually a lot of those self-sharpening ones are basically a gimmick. They just end up making the blade worse after a few cuts. I think the whole mechanism messes with the edge alignment from the start.
