Chose the flexible online course over the rigid bootcamp and it paid off way faster

I had to pick between a 12-week coding bootcamp that met every night (which would've killed my tree service schedule) and a self-paced Udemy course for $15. Finished the course in 8 weeks during slow afternoons, landed a junior dev role at a local startup three months later. Has anyone else found that flexible schedules beat intensive programs when you've got a day job?

My buddy Derek did the same thing with a Python course on Coursera while he was still driving for DoorDash. He bought it on sale for like 30 bucks and finished the modules between lunch rushes. Four months later he was doing backend work for a small healthcare app company, and last I heard he was making more than his old manager at the pizza place. He still jokes that his “bootcamp” was a laptop on his passenger seat with a cold burrito next to it. I think the real lesson is that structure matters less than actually sticking with it when you can.

Fifteen dollars? That's less than what I spend on gas for a single week of climbing trees. Three months from clicking "buy" to having a real dev job is wild, especially with a startup involved. Kinda makes me wonder why anyone still drops thousands on those bootcamps.
