After finding cracks in the plaster, I'm stressing over my farmhouse's load-bearing wall. Any tips?

Check if the cracks are just from old wallpaper glue shrinking.

That "better safe than sorry" line from @noah387 is so true. It reminds me of my neighbor who freaked out over a sagging beam in his old barn. He was ready to tear the whole thing down. Turned out it was just the original, hand-hewn timber that had warped a bit over a century. It was still solid as a rock, just quirky. Sometimes old houses just have personality you know.

My cousin had a similar scare with his porch sagging last year. He called a structural engineer right away, said it was worth the peace of mind. Turns out it was just settling, but better safe than sorry.
