A customer in Portland told me my seams were too tight
He pointed out a small ripple forming near a seam in his living room Berber, saying he'd seen it before when installers pulled too hard. I always thought a tight seam was a good seam, but he was right. I started leaving just a tiny bit more slack, maybe an eighth of an inch, and it's made a big difference on glue-down jobs. Anyone else adjust their seam tension after getting a specific complaint?

Ever think the subfloor's movement matters more than the seam itself?

But that slack you leave, does it ever cause a different problem? Like maybe the edges don't lay flat right away or you get a slight lip if the carpet has a strong backing. I'm trying to picture how you manage that eighth inch without it looking loose before the glue sets.
