Visited a carpet showroom in Cleveland and noticed something off about their seams

I stopped by Carpet One in Cleveland last Thursday to check out some new styles and I saw a HUGE seam running down the middle of their main display room. It was already starting to fray at the edges and the backing was showing through after what the salesman said was only 6 months of foot traffic. Has anyone else seen bad seams in showrooms or is this just a display floor thing?

Oh man, that fraying after only 6 months sounds like a real quality issue! I read somewhere that display floors get way more abuse than home carpeting, but they should still hold up better than that. Hopefully the store stands behind their install and fixes it for you.

Yeah paige514 you're probably right about display floors getting more abuse... I heard from a flooring guy once that showroom carpets sometimes don't even have the same padding underneath as what they'd use in a home. They just lay it over concrete and call it a day. That backing showing through after only 6 months is a bad sign though, especially in a professional store. Makes you wonder if they cut corners on the installation too, like using cheap tape instead of proper seaming glue. I'd be worried about buying anything from a place that lets their own floor look that rough right out in the open.
