I kept making cat memes that got maybe 3 upvotes each (painful, I know). Then I realized I was overcomplicating the formatting, like using crazy fonts and too many layers. So I tried a simple trick: I copy-pasted a blank meme template from Imgflip into Paint, then added just one text box and one cat pic. No filters, no extra frames, just the punchline. After 5 memes done that way, my last one hit 200 upvotes in a day. Anyone else find that simpler formatting actually works better for cat memes?

actually I kinda disagree with this approach, not completely but enough to speak up. I've been making cat memes for like three years now and the copy paste trick works fine for quick laughs but it also makes everything look the same after a while. I mean yeah sure you got 200 upvotes on one meme but if you do bare bones formatting every time people will start scrolling past because they've seen that exact layout fifty times already. the best cat memes I've ever made were the ones where I spent like ten minutes messing with the contrast and adding a dumb little border, you know? it's that extra effort that makes people stop and actually read the joke instead of just treating it like another generic template.
