Full battery right before a road trip is a myth for me now

Charged to 100% before driving from Austin to Dallas last week, and the regen was basically dead for the first 40 miles because of the cold morning. Ngl, I learned I'd rather leave at 80% and hit a fast charger halfway, has anyone else found that full charge hurts more than it helps?

Drove my Model 3 from Denver to Vail in January and did the same thing, charged to 100 the night before and then watched that regen bar sit there doing nothing for the first half hour. Car was basically a brick on wheels going down the hill, had to use the actual brakes like some kind of caveman. What worked better for me was charging to like 85, driving 20 minutes, then topping up at a supercharger in Idaho Springs while I grabbed coffee. Took maybe 12 extra minutes total and I got full regen the whole way up. Plus the battery warms up faster when it's not packed to the brim.
