Update: Took me 18 months of DC fast charging before I realized I was killing my battery by always letting it hit 100%

Stopped at an Electrify America station in Boise last week and the guy next to me said 'you know you're supposed to stop at 80% unless you're road tripping' and now I feel like an idiot for every time I topped off to full at a mall charger has anyone else made this mistake?

Questions how much damage it really does. Modern battery management systems are pretty smart, they leave a little buffer at the top. Eighteen months of charging to full might cost you a few miles of range over the life of the car, not a dead battery. People act like it's the end of the world but the real killer is leaving it at 100% for days or weeks at a time, not just charging up and driving away.

Society forgets nuance and goes right to panic.
