Hit $2,311 in takeout last year, that number stung
I track everything in a spreadsheet, boring but whatever. Added up all my DoorDash and restaurant receipts from last year. $2,311 total, that's like a used car or a really nice weekend trip. Most of it was those $15 burrito bowls and $12 pho runs when I was too lazy to cook. Anyone else actually add up their numbers and regret it, or am I just the only one keeping receipts?
The "$15 burrito bowls" part is what got me. That's barely more than what you'd spend making it at home after you buy the rice, the chicken, the guac, the sour cream, and the tortilla. People act like eating out is some crazy waste, but sometimes paying $12 for pho is cheaper than buying all the ingredients you won't use before they go bad. $2,311 sounds like a lot until you break it down to like $190 a month, which is basically one nice dinner out and a few lunches. Honestly, I'd worry more about what you're getting for that money than the number itself. If it tasted good and saved you time, that's not a waste, that's just convenience.
