PSA: Hit $200 in grocery savings just by checking clearance bins at my local H-E-B in Austin

I started scanning the meat and bakery clearance sections around 8 a.m. every Wednesday. This morning I found pork chops marked down from $12 to $4 and a loaf of sourdough for $0.79. Over the past 8 weeks my total savings added up to exactly $200. Has anyone else found a hidden goldmine like the dairy clearance or is it just my store that does this?

Man, that's a solid find! I've been doing something similar at my local Kroger here in Ohio, but I hit the clearance section on Tuesday mornings instead. The bakery markdowns are wild, like day-old bagels for 50 cents, but your meat score is next level. I've noticed the dairy clearance is hit or miss at my store, mostly just stuff that's about to expire or oddball flavors nobody buys. It sounds like your H-E-B is really on top of their rotation, which is key. If you haven't already, check if they do a specific day for markdowns on frozen goods too, I've found some good deals on ice cream that way. That $200 in eight weeks is no joke, you're basically getting paid to eat well.

Honestly, that Tuesday morning Kroger tip is solid. I've noticed Wednesdays at my local H-E-B are the sweet spot for the discount stickers on meat, but I tried your idea once and grabbed a whole ribeye roast for $12 on a Tuesday right after they opened. The frozen goods thing you mentioned is key too, I snagged a half gallon of premium ice cream for $1.75 last week just because the box was crushed. We should start a spreadsheet or something tracking the best clearance days at different stores, it's basically a side hustle at this point.
