Why does nobody talk about the deli counter at Garcia's Market?

I always walked past it for the prepackaged stuff, but last week I grabbed a half-pound of their homemade pimento cheese for $3.50 and it beat anything from the grocery store. Has anyone else found a hidden cheap gem at a place you normally skip?

$3.50 for homemade pimento cheese?" That's insane, I'd pay double that at a regular store for worse stuff.

Read somewhere that pimento cheese originated in the south as a way to use up old cheese and canned peppers, so charging more than a few bucks for it feels like a rip-off. I saw a recipe once where they just mix shredded cheddar with mayo and pimentos, that's like three ingredients. $3.50 is a steal for something made fresh compared to the $7 tubs at the grocery that taste like plastic. Plus you're supporting someone's kitchen hustle rather than a factory.

Makes total sense. Good pimento cheese is just cheddar, mayo, and pimentos. That's it. Paying $7 for a tub of it is wild when you could make a better batch at home in five minutes. But $3.50 for someone else to do the work and use real ingredients? That's a fair trade.
