My mandoline finally got me after ten years of dodging it

Last Tuesday I was slicing shallots for a catering order and the blade caught my thumb right below the nail. Blood everywhere, had to close the station early and drive myself to urgent care. Four stitches and a tetanus shot later, I am down a prep hand for a week. Anyone else have a tool they swore by until it finally bit them back?

Cut resistant gloves are worth it. Just get a pair and wear them every time. Saves you from the urgent care bills and lost work time.

Learned that lesson the hard way. Twelve stitches and a lost week of work. Never skip the gloves now.
