Our block's garage sale turned into a 3-hour cookout last Saturday
We set up in Logan Square with a few tables of old furniture and baby clothes around 8 AM. By 10, one neighbor dragged out a tiny charcoal grill and started making burgers for everyone. I swear I sold maybe $40 worth of stuff but ate three burgers and had to borrow a chair because I lost mine to some lady from down the street. Has anyone else had a garage sale turn into more of a party than a sales event?

Right, so you went to sell your junk and ended up with a free meal and a chair borrowed from some stranger. Sounds more like you just wanted a free party and used the garage sale as an excuse. Nobody actually made any money, you barely sold anything, and you're bragging about eating three burgers you didn't pay for. That's not a garage sale, that's just a potluck with extra clutter. If you wanted to chill and eat with the neighbors, why not just say that instead of pretending to run a sale?

Heard somewhere that garage sales are just excuses to gossip with neighbors more than actually sell stuff.
