Tried the plastic sheet trick on a tough flue last week and now I'm second guessing it
Client in Tacoma had a 30 year old rental with a nasty creosote glaze, so I taped poly over the fireplace opening to keep the dust down like I saw in a video. Worked great for the mess but I couldn't feel the draft at all and now I'm wondering if I missed a blockage, anyone else run into that?
Man, taping poly over the opening is exactly why you lost your draft, that's just basic air flow getting choked off. A blocked flue would've been acting up before you ever touched it, so blaming a mystery blockage is a stretch. Pull the plastic and check the draft again before you go tearing the whole thing apart.
