Warning: That ultrasonic soot remover I bought was a total waste
Got one of those ultrasonic cleaners from a supply catalog last fall to clean soot off tools. Took me 3 hours running it on a set of brushes and they still had grime stuck in the bristles. A bucket of hot water and Simple Green did a better job in 20 minutes. Has anyone else tried these machines and found they just don't work for heavy creosote?

Nah those things are garbage for anything but maybe jewelry. I bought one off Amazon last year thinking it would be magic for cleaning engine parts. Nope. Just made the dirt wet and rearranged it. A good degreaser and a stiff brush will always win against that buzzing box. Save your money for something that actually scrubs.

Just made the dirt wet and rearranged it" is the perfect way to put it. I tried one on a greasy engine block and it basically smeared everything around in a fine paste. A can of brake cleaner and some elbow grease still work way better than that thing ever did.
