How much are you really spending on car covers in Phoenix?
I bought a fitted dust cover for my 1968 Mustang from a specialty shop in Phoenix, paid extra for the exact mirror pockets and antenna grommets. It fit like a glove for the first month, then the wind shredded the seams along the hood. Turns out I parked under the one tree in my yard where the branches drop sap every night, and that ate through the stitching. Now the cover is a drop cloth for my rusted wheelbarrow and I'm back to using old bed sheets for the car. Has anyone found a cover that actually survives Arizona summers, or am I stuck with the tarp and bungee cord life?

Preaching to the choir, that sounds exactly like what happened to my truck cover last July. I dropped good money on one that was supposedly UV resistant, but the desert sun cooked the fabric until it just crumbled in my hands when I went to fold it. Tarp and bungee cords are ugly, but they haven't let me down yet.

Same thing happened with mine. Bought a well reviewed cover for my truck, supposedly all weather and built for the heat. The first dust storm we got, the wind ripped the tie-down loops right off the corners. And the sun faded it so bad it turned from black to a weird grayish brown in like two months. The sap issue though, that’s a whole other nightmare. That stuff eats through everything, it’s basically acid. I ended up doing the same thing, just using a cheap canvas tarp and some bungees. It looks like crap but it’s been through three summers now and it’s still holding up fine.
