Unpopular take: humidity-controlled storage is overrated for most classics
After my buddy's '67 Mustang got mold in a fancy climate-controlled unit in Phoenix, I stopped worrying so much... I've kept my '74 Celica in a dry garage with just a tarp for 3 years and it's fine. Anyone else ditch the expensive systems?

Maybe the mold was just trying to cosplay as a shag carpet from the '70s. Sounds like a tarp and some prayer is the real budget pro move.

A dry garage with good airflow is all you need most of the time. The real enemy isn't humidity itself, it's sudden temperature swings that make condensation happen inside the car. Those expensive units often seal everything up too tight and trap moisture when the power flickers or the AC fails for a day. I've seen more damage from a system that worked 99% of the time than from a simple setup with a box fan pointed at the car's underside. Why overcomplicate something that just needs to breathe?
