My neighbor told me to switch to a heat pump water heater 2 years ago

He said it would cut my electric bill in half and I thought he was nuts because the upfront cost was $1,600. After 18 months in my Denver house, my bill dropped from $85 a month to $42 and I finally broke even last month. Has anyone else had a neighbor give them advice that actually worked out way better than expected?

Wait your bill went from $85 to $42? That's actually insane. My neighbor told me to switch to LED bulbs and I saved maybe $10 a month tops lol.

...and the thing is, I had a buddy who swore by those thermal blinds from Costco. He said they kept his living room way cooler in summer. I put them up and my AC barely kicked on all July. Now I'm wondering what other neighbor advice I've been ignoring.
