Our town's big battery day turned into a bit of a mess
We had a community battery recycling drive last Saturday at the high school, and the line was so long it blocked the main road for an hour. I was stuck in it and saw a bunch of people just leave their old car batteries on the curb because they gave up waiting. I ended up helping the two volunteers move the dropped ones to the collection point so they wouldn't leak. Has anyone else run a drive and had a turnout way bigger than expected? How do you handle the crowd?

Our church tried a coat drive last winter and had the same problem. We ran out of room in the gym in the first hour. It's a good kind of trouble, but it sure makes a long day for the volunteers.

Saw an article about churches teaming up to handle overflow.

Did they say what they were overflowing with? Food donations, people needing shelter, something else? The logistics for each of those are a totally different beast.
