TIL fixing a leaky faucet took me 4 hours instead of 30 minutes

I thought swapping a cartridge in my bathroom sink would be a quick job, but the old one was so crusted with mineral deposits it wouldn't budge. After wrestling with it for 3 hours, I finally had to buy a specialty puller tool from the hardware store across town. Has anyone else found hidden problems like this that turn a simple fix into a whole afternoon project?

Start by checking if your faucet was actually made by the same brand as the cartridge you bought. I spent a whole Saturday battling a leak once, only to find out the previous owner had swapped in a generic part that wasn't even the right size. The spec sheet on the box matched nothing in real life, so double check before you fight with that puller tool again.

Does the puller tool at least make you feel like a pro even after wasting half the day? Ngl, I spent 5 hours replacing a toilet flapper once because the old plastic nut had basically fused to the metal thread.
