Blew a spindle on a Saturday job in Newark, now I check the RPM before anything
I was running a 3/8 endmill on aluminum and didn't notice the speed override was dialed down to 60%. Snapped the tool 10 minutes in and ruined a $400 part. Anyone else make it a habit to verify overrides before every program start or am I the only dummy here?
am I the only dummy here" nah you got company. The override dial is the silent killer, nobody ever looks at it until the tool is in three pieces. First thing I do now is glance at the feed and speed readout before hitting cycle start, every single time, even on a proven program. Ten seconds of checking beats ten minutes of sweeping up aluminum chips. Only took one snapped tool to make that a habit for me too.
