I always thought spindle probes were overkill for a small shop like mine. Then I got a batch of 40 aluminum housings from a new customer that needed really tight tolerances, plus a quick turnaround. I spent $1,200 on a used Renishaw setup from a local shop that was upgrading. Setting it up took about half a day but the first run came out perfect, no scrap. Did the math and that one job saved me around $900 just in wasted material and setup time. Never going back to edge finding on parts that have any kind of geometry. Has anyone else found a used metrology tool that actually worked out?
