Tried a 0.0005" pass on 1018 vs my usual .002", the finish was night and day
I ran a test part last Tuesday on our old Haas with a 3/4" 5-flute end mill and the slower feed took the surface finish from a 63 down to like a 16, but it ate up an extra 45 minutes per piece, so is that worth it if the job only calls for a 63?
Ha, I read somewhere that 1018 basically laughs at light cuts unless you really commit to the speed, so that tracks. If the print says 63 and you're at 63, you're just giving the shop free time for zero reason.
