Tried to swap out a worn collet on my Haas and stripped the drawbar nut
Was running a job last Tuesday, 3/8 endmill started chattering bad on a stainless part. Figured it was just a worn collet, easy fix. Got the spanner wrench on there and that nut just would not budge. Put a little more muscle into it and felt it slip. Yeah, I rounded off the damn thing. Now I'm down for two days waiting on a new drawbar and nut assembly. My lead man just shook his head and said "shoulda heated it first." Anyone else had this happen and found a trick to get those stubborn ones off without ruining everything?

Got a buddy who runs a small shop, he had the same thing happen on a Fadal last year. He ended up having to cut the nut off with a die grinder, took him like four hours and he cussed the whole time. Said he'll never skip the torch again after that nightmare.

I read somewhere that Fadals are notorious for that exact issue, something about the nut seizing up from heat stress. @patriciaellis, your buddy's story is making me glad I don't own a machine older than 2010, haha.
