Warning: I called pour-over snobs pretentious for 2 years and now I own 3 goosenecks
Two years ago I watched a guy at a shop in Eugene spend 4 minutes pouring water in slow circles and I told my wife it was the dumbest thing I'd ever seen. I was a drip machine guy and proud of it, because coffee is coffee and paying $40 for a kettle with a skinny spout felt like a scam. Then my brother left his setup at my house for a week and I ran out of excuses, so I tried it with the same beans I always buy and the cup tasted totally different, sweeter and less bitter with none of that burnt edge. I still say some of the gear hype is nonsense, but the slow pour is the one thing that won me over and I felt like a fool. I've owned 3 goosenecks since and my drip machine sits in the garage now. What's the one thing you all mocked before it won you over?
same beans I always buy and the cup tasted totally different" is doing a lot of work there, since the grind size and the ratio usually matter more than the pour itself, so your gooseneck might be getting credit for the burr grinder effect.
